UVALDE STRONG!
Tragedy compels us to mourn with those who mourn, yet Jesus propels us to act. San Antonio Youth for Christ (SAYFC) has been at the frontline as memorials, alters and weeping rose in the days passing the loss of 19 children and 2 adults. Answering God's call to Uvalde began months prior to the atrocious events that took place recently. SAYFC had been invited to the table as the city's mayor, school administrators and local officials sought and pleaded for help as they recognized various mental health concerns with the youth of the community. Facing a number of social service issues as well, we engaged in conversations in regards to how we have successfully engaged troubled youth through mentoring. The city was welcoming and inviting to have us come serve. Then tragedy struck. We feel even more convinced that initiating our youth programming there is the right thing to do, now rather than later. As we trust God's leading, we trust He will lead others to partner with us in this endeavor.
